Man Without Country - Interview

Future Sound Share has been following Man Without Country’s progress since August 2011 when we included "Inflammable Heart" on the playlist.  We were so taken with them, that we had no choice but to include another track "King Complex" on the proceeding months playlist.  They have since released their debut album that received fantastic reviews across the board and have supported M83 on 2 tours.  We have been lucky enough to get to see them a couple of times and you can check out the review from the Madam JoJos gig here.

-What artists and genres have you taken influence or inspiration from to create your sound?

Brian Eno, xenomania, Steve Reich, Richard X

-Who is involved in writing the songs and is there a typical process?

Both of us are involved.  There is no typical process, we like to mix it up by writing collaboratively and as individuals.

-What was the best gig you ever played and where.  Was there anything in particular that made it special?

Paris Olympia with M83.  The Olympia is such a prestigious venue and playing there with one of our favourite bands was amazing.

-How did  the connection with M83 materialise , as I believe this is the 2nd tour you have supported them on now?

We remixed M83's 'Midnight City' and Anthony was very happy with what we delivered.  After making this connection we approached the band about supporting them on some European dates and they were up for it.

-What has been the feedback and response to your debut album “Foe” and are there any plans to get back in the studio?

We are extremely happy with our debut album "Foe" and that's the most important thing.  Obviously it's always a great feeling when you talk to someone or read about how much other people enjoy the album.  We are constantly writing new material and are looking at releasing new music next year.

-What advice would you give new artists?

Be very critical about your own work and never give up.

-Name 3 up and coming bands that people should be checking out?

MS MR, Roxymore, Deptford Goth

-If I asked you to provide a nonsensical response to a question that i hadn't even thought of yet, what would your answer be?

Dane Bowers
